Die spanische Website MuyWindows ha teine grosse Anzahl von Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Screenshots veröffentlicht. Da es sich um ein Service Packet handelt zeigen diese Screenshots natürlich nichts spektakuläres. Das SP1 für Windows 7 wird wie schon von Windows Vista bekannt über das Windows Update vertrieben und 150MB gross sein, auch die Installationsroutine scheint der von Vista sehr zu ähneln. Laut einiger Spekulationen aber soll das SP1 USB3 Unterstützung und ein verbesserten WLAN Support liefern.

Das von Microsoft veröffentlichte Tool um Windows 7 auf einen USB Stick zu kopieren um so Windows 7 beispielsweise auf einem Netbook zu installieren, kam gut an. Leider musste Microsoft den Download für das Programm einstellen aufgrund von Lizenz Problemen:

Microsoft hat seinen Fehler wieder gut gemacht und das Programm nun unter den richtigen Rahmenbedingungen veröffentlicht. Leider ist nun daraus ein typisches Microsoft Programm geworden das neben dem Installer noch andere Programme benötigt, wie zum Beispiel das .NET Framework und IMAPI, welche automatisch heruntergeladen werden, wenn diese nicht installiert sind.

Wie Peter Galli in seinem Blog erklärt:

I am very pleased to announce that Microsoft today released the Open Sourced Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (WUDT) under the GPLv2.

As we previously explained, the testing and localization took longer than we expected, but the project is now hosted on CodePlex.com, Microsoft’s Open Source software project hosting repository, and the code can be found here. 

The tool can also now be downloaded from the Microsoft Store here.

Also, as a result of some necessary changes, while the user experience of the tool will be the same as before, the install involves additional steps.

When you purchase Windows 7 from Microsoft Store, you have the option to download an ISO file or compressed files. The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool allows you to create a copy of your Windows 7 ISO file on a USB flash drive or a DVD. To create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive, download the ISO file and then run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. Once this is done, you can install Windows 7 directly from the USB flash drive or DVD.

Wie Tobbis zeigt ist die Bedienung sehr einfach. Das Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool kopiert nach erfolgreicher Installation die ausgewählte ISO Datei auf den USB Stick. Tobbi bemängelt zwar die fehlende Portabilität des USB/DVD Download Tool, aber das ist meiner Meinung auch gar nicht nötig, da es für Windows 7 nur eine ISO Datei gibt, erst durch den CD-Key wird die jeweilige Windows 7 Version installiert.

Der neue Kompatibilitätsmodus aus Windows 7, Windows XP Mode, der auf einer neuen Version von Virtual PC basiert, wird in Zukunft über das Windows Update beziehbar sein. Georg Binder von Vistablog.at hat sich den XP Mode mal genauer angeschaut und sich das 450 MB große Zusatzprogramm genauer angeschaut. Da scheint Microsoft ja einen richtigen Coup gelandet zu haben, denn nicht nur Programme laufen im XPM sondern auch USB Geräte
